Design/Senior Design Manager – Main Contractor

Blackmount Recruitment is looking to speak with experienced Design Managers and Senior Design Managers for upcoming opportunities with established London-based contractors delivering major residential, commercial, mixed-use, refurbishment, and high-end construction projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for design professionals who are confident managing the full design process from pre-construction through to delivery, working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, technical teams, commercial teams, and site-based delivery staff.

Typical Responsibilities:
• Managing the design process from tender, pre-construction, procurement, construction, and handover stages
• Coordinating architects, engineers, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and internal project teams
• Reviewing design information, drawings, specifications, technical submissions, and design programmes
• Identifying design risks, buildability issues, technical clashes, and value engineering opportunities
• Supporting planning, Building Regulations, fire safety, façade, structural, MEP, and compliance requirements
• Driving design deliverables in line with programme, budget, quality, and client expectations
• Attending design team meetings, client meetings, workshops, and internal project reviews
• Working closely with project teams to resolve technical issues on site

Ideal Candidate:
• Experience working for a main contractor, developer contractor, façade contractor, or design consultancy
• Strong technical understanding of construction detailing, design coordination, and buildability
• Experience on residential, commercial, mixed-use, refurbishment, high-rise, or complex London projects
• Confident managing consultants, subcontractors, design programmes, and technical queries
• Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with site and commercial teams
• Knowledge of current Building Regulations, CDM, design risk management, and compliance processes
